about my re-entry into the blogosphere of self-promoting megalomaniacs.

well, so far i have not exploded into flames. looks like my steely exterior has remained intact. for my next trick i will don an adult diaper and drive 900 miles... nevermind. comic references are often lost with an internet audience.

~ ~ ~

an essay prompt i once had in women+crime was, "why study women in crime?" i came up with a really bad-ass and insightful response that earned me an impressive 100% and a verbal "i don't normally give out such grades" from my young adjunct professor (who's area of study was primarily hate crime, not women and crime.. and who did in fact give out such grades). the interior design major sitting adjacent to me asked if i was "a straight-A student." no, tragically i like to set the bar low. one A is good enough.

i cannot continue with this blog until i can justify its creation and maintenance. i have read a lot of blogs in my day, and can only think of a few that are really worth going back to. the only one i have read as of late is primarily about design, but not as most design blogs are about design. this dude is actually insightful (and rather unpretentious) and makes some interesting critiques of the design world. now would probably be a good time to plug the link, but all my entertaining sites are bookmarked at work... you know, like the rest of the cubicle world.

i have also, on occasion, read personal blogs kept by close friends (or people that are not close friends, but somehow garner my curiosity regardless). i suppose there is always someone you wish you knew better in reality.

[i cant help but think now how i feel like sarah jessica parker in sex in the city. someone will surely read this and actually feel as though i insulted their intelligence with my too-easy witticisms and neurotic assessments of day-to-day life.]

a lot of blogs i see from other young designers are really just another outlet to plug their work. that really doesn't interest me. i'm surrounded by designers and am slowly fostering a hate for design pop-culture. i know i'm not alone here, but really... disliking design culture wont score you a sweet job at a design firm on the west coast. [ i hear the "you just have to want it, carly" statement so much that i've come to realize that i never really wanted "it" in the first place.] so you can see why this is probably not a popular topic. i like to design, but i don't want to be a designer. i'm sure there is some logic in that statement.

i cannot venture to guess what anyone reading this blog could glean about my life or about life in general. chances are pretty good that i will unintentionally offend a lot of people (because i tend to do that) and those who do not know me will never want to. in fact i think i already insulted design bloggers everywhere.

well, the onus was upon me to prove the importance of blogging and i regret to say i was not able to come up with any good reasons. oh well. i will try to keep the self-promoting to a minimum, because that stuff is bullshit... or at least not productive enough to inspire me to do it.

i hope that if i make a comment that fires you up enough to talk smack about my blog to leave a comment regarding your sentiments, even if you think it is insulting. i've never been a big fan of political correctness and very rarely take critical (or any other type of) assessments personally. besides, what is the use of publishing a blog if it doesn't inspire some rational or insightful dialogue?

so... is it possible to blog without being a blogger? is it possible to publish your thoughts without being pretentious and deluded? (way to wrap it up, bradshaw.) stupid question. its practically un-american to be an un-blogger. and i am proud to live in the only country in the entire world with a secular constitution and a government that isn't actually secular.
